Today had been particularly bad. She was ranting and raving at e like a deranged lunatic. I in retaliation shouted so badly and told her I wished we had never met.

Now as the morning drags on ,I am regretting those words. Of course I don't regret us being together. For most of our thirty years we had been great together.

I was making a brew after the delegates had applauded and left.

Julia came into the kitchen.

'You OK John ? it seemed to go well, we have a few on board already'

'Yea, just me and Maggie had a massive strop this morning, I don't know what's happening anymore'

'What is about?'

'To be honest I don't know, we have just got into a pattern of bickering and it is getting worse'

'Have you not talked?'

'No we can't'

'Well that's what you need to do, get to the root of it forget the angry words and find out where it all began and why, then you can sort it out between you'

'You talk such sense Julia ,you make it sound easy, but its not'

'Easy or not , you don't have much of a choice if you want to stop the rot'

'True' Julia went back into the office. My day was done. I drove home thinking about Julia's words.She was right.

I bought a massive bouquet of flowers from the florist and greeted Maggie with the longest hug and apology.

'We have to stop the way things are darling, we need to talk'

She had tears of relief in her eyes as if for the first time she realised I cared.
